Summer Evenings at the Creek | Family Photography at Pundt Park in Spring, Texas
If your goal is to keep your kids clean...
...I have some terrible news about creek sessions.
There will be sand.
There will be water.
Someone will absolutely decide to jump in deeper than you expected.
And if you're lucky, you'll leave with shoes full of sand and a camera roll full of memories.
Honestly? That's exactly how childhood is supposed to look.
When this sweet family met me at Pundt Park, little miss climbed out of the car wearing her princess dress, and I immediately thought, Yep. This is going to be fun.
Could Mom have convinced her to wear something a little more "practical?"
Probably.
Did she?
Nope.
Because she gets it.
She knows this is who her daughter is right now.
And someday she'll miss this stage more than she'll ever miss having a perfectly coordinated outfit.
The Best Part Wasn't the Princess Dress
Okay...
It was definitely one of my favorite parts.
Watching her twirl around in that thing while we wandered through the trails was adorable.
But what really stood out to me was watching this mama with her kids.
She wasn't worried about whether they were doing everything "right."
She wasn't constantly fixing shirts or telling them to smile.
She was laughing.
Cheering them on.
Helping little sister climb on big brother's back.
Watching them figure things out.
Just...being with them.
As a photographer, I notice that stuff.
The pictures are beautiful because of the light.
The memories are beautiful because of the people.
Big Brother Deserves a Little Credit Here
Can we talk about big brothers for a second?
Because this guy absolutely understood the assignment.
He walked with his little sister.
Held her hand.
Gave piggyback rides.
Let her tag along.
Basically tolerated her little sister energy like a professional. 😂
Watching those two together made me smile all evening.
You can't pose that kind of relationship.
You just have to make space for it.
The Creek Won
At first, little miss wasn't completely sold on getting in the water.
She stood there looking at it like...
"I mean...are we sure?"
One cautious little step.
Another.
Then suddenly...
Splash.
Game over.
After that, there were skipped rocks, splashing, wet feet, muddy toes, and absolutely no interest in staying dry.
Exactly as it should be.
This Is Why I Love Storytelling Photography
I could tell you where everyone stood.
I could line everybody up.
I could ask everyone to smile at me.
We'd get a nice picture.
But here's the thing...
Twenty years from now, nobody remembers where they stood.
They remember the princess phase.
The way little sister always wanted to copy big brother.
The way Mom laughed when everyone got soaked anyway.
Those are the stories that matter.
Those are the photographs I want hanging on your walls.
Because someday that princess dress will disappear.
Big brother won't be giving piggyback rides anymore.
And this sweet mama...she'll probably find herself wishing she could go back to one ordinary Tuesday evening at the creek.
Luckily...
Now she can.
Thinking About Your Own Family Session?
Whether it's one of my seasonal creek sessions or a full storytelling family session, my goal is always the same.
I want your kids to leave thinking...
"That was actually fun."
And I want you to leave with photographs that make you laugh first...
...and cry a little ten years later.
Because the best family photos aren't about getting everyone to look at the camera.
They're about remembering exactly who everyone was before they grew up.
