There are some senior sessions that feel extra special, and Avery’s session was definitely one of those for me.
I’ve known Avery and her family since she was little, so getting to photograph this milestone season of her life honestly felt a little surreal. Her mom owns Gander Studio here in Alvin, and if you’ve never stopped in there before, it’s such a fun and creative place where you can create all sorts of crafts. It’s one of those places that always inspires creativity the moment you walk through the door.
When we started planning Avery’s senior session, she knew she wanted something different. She didn’t want the same locations everyone else uses. She wanted her session to feel personal, creative, and completely her.
Since Avery is a huge music fan, we decided to start her session in Houston at Cactus Music, one of the coolest record stores around. If you’ve never been there, it’s absolutely worth visiting. The entire place has this nostalgic, retro vibe filled with rows and rows of new and vintage vinyl records, music memorabilia, posters, and hidden gems tucked into every corner.
We spent part of the session flipping through records, talking about favorite artists, laughing over album covers, and capturing photos that felt authentic to who Avery is right now in this season of life. Some of my favorite images from the day happened completely naturally while she was simply exploring the store and enjoying herself.
Of course, we also had to grab a few photos outside of Cactus Music because the exterior has such a fun Houston vibe that worked perfectly with the overall feel of her session.
After we wrapped up in Houston, we headed back to Alvin for the second part of her session with a gorgeous vintage blue classic car owned by a family friend. The old car gave the photos such a timeless feel and added another layer of personality to her gallery. It honestly looked like something straight out of a movie scene.
By the end of the evening, we were running out of light, but there was still one more part of Avery’s vision we hadn’t finished yet.
A few days later, we met back up at Froberg's Farm for sunflower season, and y’all… the sunflower fields were absolutely stunning this year.
The golden light, the flowers, the movement, the excitement — it all came together perfectly.

I’m pretty sure Avery got in at least a thousand steps during this part of her session because we spent the entire evening spinning through the flowers, running down rows, laughing, and creating some of the dreamiest senior photos ever. These images felt joyful and carefree in the best possible way.
We also made sure to capture a few photos celebrating her next big adventure at Louisiana State University, which made this final part of her session feel even more meaningful.
It’s honestly hard to believe we’ve already made it to Avery’s senior year. It feels like yesterday she was a tiny little girl showing up to picture sessions with a full list of poses she wanted to try and enough personality to direct the entire shoot herself.
Watching her grow into such an incredible young woman has been such a joy, and I cannot wait to see all the amazing things ahead for her in this next chapter.
Avery, thank you for letting me be part of such a special season of your life.
